In June, Scopus removed twelve journals. In July, another fourteen were removed. From April through July 2026, the database removed 51 journals.
At least 188 Ukrainian researchers and 199 author entries recorded only in five from the list of verified journals. This is a warning to every author currently choosing a journal to submit to. Because this is exactly what the risk will look like in 2026: not some abstract “predatory journal,” but a publication that was in the database just yesterday and is no longer there today.
The July update covered publications from various countries and at least seven academic disciplines: engineering, health sciences, physical education, law, mathematics, environmental science, and medicine. Eight journals were permanently removed from the index (Discontinuation). Six more changed their editorial policies to such an extent that Scopus could no longer confirm their compliance with its standards (Journal change policy).
The magazines we warned you about
In the section “Journals at Risk of Being Removed from Scopus,” we systematically analyze publications at high risk of being removed. Among the July removals are three journals that we had warned about in advance:
International Journal of Ecosystems and Ecology Science: An analysis in Issue No. 11, “Candidates for Removal from Scopus.” View the analysis →
Paths to Justice: An analysis in Issue No. 12, “Candidates for Removal from Scopus.” View the analysis →
Journal of Daoist Studies: An analysis in Issue No. 15, “Candidates for Removal from Scopus.” View the analysis →
In each of these journals, we identified signs of unsound editorial practices long before Scopus’s official decision. The July update confirmed all three predictions.
📊 45 out of 53: and this is no coincidence
Between 2024 and 2026, 45 of the 53 journals we had flagged in the “Candidates for Removal from Scopus” section were officially removed from the database. This is the highest rate among teams that monitor scientific publications.
Official List of Excluded Journals (July 2026)
Eight journals have been permanently discontinued (Discontinuation). Six journals have been removed due to a change in editorial policy (Journal change policy). Total: 14 publications.

Conclusions
The July Scopus update: not an anomaly, but yet another confirmation that the database is alive, evolving, and doesn't send out warnings.
Eight journals have been permanently discontinued in Scopus (Discontinuation). Another six have changed their editorial policies to such an extent that the database could no longer confirm their compliance with standards (Journal change policy). In total: fourteen publications, whose authors were not notified.
What does this mean in practice:
• An article submitted to a journal prior to its discontinuation may not be counted toward the evaluation;
• Publication in a limited-circulation edition constitutes grounds for rejection during the dissertation defense;
• Grants and academic titles tied to Scopus publications are also at risk.
Our monitoring for 2024–2026 confirms that 45 of the 53 journals we identified as high-risk have been officially delisted, including three from this update. In today’s academic environment, the authors who thrive are those who make decisions based on data, not on hopes. Checking a journal before submission is not an unnecessary precaution—it’s the bare minimum.
The Article Academy is ready to help you get your work published in reputable journals.
We will prepare your article, select a reputable Scopus-indexed journal in your field, and guide you through the indexing process with a guarantee under an official contract.
