Instructions for registering with Google Scholar

Article
Category: Candidates for departure from Scopus
Date: 24.12.2024

Google Scholar or Google Scholar is a convenient tool for finding scientific articles, books, dissertations, and other academic materials. In addition, the platform allows you to create a personal researcher profile, where you can track citations, add publications, and showcase your achievements. In this article, we will take a detailed look at how to create a profile in Google Scholar.

What will you need?

Before starting registration, prepare:

  • Google account. If you don't have one yet, sign up for a Google account first.
  • Information about your publications. These can be articles, theses, books or other materials.
  • A profile photo. Choose a professional image.

Step 1: Log in to Google Scholar

  • Follow the link: https://scholar.google.com.
  • Click "Log in» in the upper right corner of the page.
    Sign in to your Google account. If you don't have one, click "Create an account» and fill out the registration form.

Step 2: Create your profile

  • After logging in, click on "My profile» (My Profile).

A form will open for filling in information:

  • Your first and last name. Enter the full name you use in academic publications.
  • Your organization. For example, the university or research institute where you work or study.
  • Email: It is recommended that you use your organization's official address (for example, @university.edu).
  • Research Interests. Enter keywords that describe your research topics (for example, “bioengineering,” “sustainable development”).
  • Link to a website. If you have a personal page or a page on your organization's website, please add it.

Click "Next".

Step 3: Add posts

Google Scholar will automatically suggest a list of publications associated with your name.

Check out the suggested list:

  • Select your publications and click "Add".
    If some articles are not in the list:
  • Click "Add manually."
  • Fill out the form:
  • Title of the publication.
  • Authors.
  • Journal or place of publication.
  • Year.
  • DOI or reference (optional).

💡 Tip: If you have a lot of posts that aren't automatically recognized, add them gradually to avoid errors.

Step 4: Set up automatic profile updates and make it public

Google Scholar can automatically add new publications to your profile.

Enable this feature if you want your profile to always be up to date.

You can also choose manual mode, where each new post must be approved by yourself.

To help others find your profile:

  • Open your profile settings.
  • Turn on the "Make my profile public" option.

💡 Tip: After publishing your profile, check how it looks to other users.

Step 5: Add a profile photo

  • Click on the profile icon and upload a photo.
  • Use a high-quality professional photo with a neutral background.

Benefits of registering with Google Scholar

  • Tracking citations of your works;
  • Easy access to your posts;
  • The opportunity to showcase your achievements to other researchers;
  • Automatic notifications about new citations or works related to your interests.
