Mykola's Client Case Study

Mykola's Client Case: EB1-A Green Card for a Ukrainian Scientist
"I arrived as a refugee. I stayed as a permanent resident of the United States."

🧩 The client's situation

Mykola is a researcher from Ukraine. After the full-scale invasion began, he moved to the United States and was granted refugee status.

  • Two years later, the documents were about to expire. Extending my refugee status meant continuing to live in uncertainty.
  • Mykola wanted stability and the legal right to stay forever.
  • We analyzed his academic profile and proposed a strategy for obtaining a green card under the EB1-A category—for individuals with outstanding achievements in their field.
⚙️ What We Organized

To meet the two key criteria for EB-1A:

Criterion 1 — Contribution to the industry:

  • 4 publications in EU-based journals from 2022 to 2024;

Criterion 2 — Judiciary:

  • 10 reviews completed + 10 journal reviewer certificates;

Additionally:

  • We found three letters of recommendation from leading scientists in the field—the recommenders.
  • Cover letter for an immigration officer describing the client's personal contribution.

⚠️ First application — rejected. Mykola submitted his documents on December 2 and received a rejection on December 30.

The officer's response:

Peer review is standard practice in academia. The applicant has not provided evidence that his or her contributions set him or her apart from others. While there are publications, their impact and widespread application in the field have not been demonstrated.

We recommended arranging for a citation even before the first submission—this is one of the most important signals for an officer. Mykola declined this option at the time.

The deadline for filing an appeal is January 18.

🎯 Decisions of the Academy of Articles

We have prepared a complete package for the appeal:

  • 50 citations of publications on Google Scholar—all of them appeared on the client's profile;
  • "Best Reviewer of the Year" certificate—confirming that, among all the journal's reviewers, Mykola was the most active and outstanding;
  • The appeal was filed on time, along with a complete set of evidence.
✅ Result
  • On February 3, Mykola received his green card.
  • U.S. permanent resident status. Officially. Forever.
  • This case is yet another example of how, if you have a scientific background, an EB1-A green card is a real possibility—even after a denial.
