Journals that will soon lose indexing in Scopus part 3

Article
Category: Candidates for departure from Scopus
Date: 08.07.2024

Good afternoon, dear scientists! The Academy of Articles continues our column — publications that will soon lose indexing in Scopus. The previous 2 articles were very useful for many of you, and this is the third time we have conducted an analysis of publications at risk.

Several journals that we have previously written about in our articles have already been removed from Scopus. Here is a list of these publications:

Recently, Scopus underwent a major purge, removing 28 journals. You can read the details here. here.

So, this time we will look at 2 journals that are at risk of being removed from Scopus:

Let's start with the first edition - Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development.

Recently, we have started receiving many letters from this publication inviting us to publish with rapid publication and peer review. We decided to check this publication out because the publication fee was quite large — 1200$.

Перше, на що звернули увагу у https://a-articles.com/ua/spisok-zhurnalov-isklyuchennyh-iz-scopus-za-maj-2024-goda — різке збільшення number of issues: from 3 issues in 2023 to 6 issues in the last six months. The first 3 issues contain about 30-40 articles, which is within the norm for Scopus publications. Issue 4 has already raised the bar to about 50 articles per issue, and issue 5 saw a sharp jump — as many as 90 articles were published. Issue 6 — 112 articles, while the issue is not closed and new articles are being published in it.

As can be seen in the screenshot from the Scopus database, the number of publications this year is almost 4 times higher than last year (not counting the 112 articles that have not yet been indexed). This is a serious signal for the RADAR system, which, with such an increase in publications, immediately stops indexing the journal in Scopus and signals the journal oversight committee to check the publication.

If the publication continues this policy, it will lead to the inevitable exclusion from the index of all articles published in 2024.

We advise you to be careful when choosing such publications, as the amount of the publication fee is considerable. Currently, the publication has announced that from July 1, the price will reach 1800$. According to our estimates and forecasts, the publication will be excluded from the Scopus database within 2-4 months, and articles for 2024 will be completely excluded from the index.

We strongly advise against publishing articles in such a publication, even if the terms of rapid publication are very attractive, as excluding the article from the index will bring even more problems and a significant loss of funds.

Тепер перейдемо до другого видання, про яке ми сьогодні будемо говорити,— International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering.

We also received many letters from this publication with offers of quick publication for 600 euros and decided to check it out. The publisher — Auricle Global Society of Education and Research has previously done something similar with the journal Educational Administration: Theory and Practice, which was removed from Scopus in May. This is not surprising, since in six months the journal, which costs $1,000 per article, published over 1,000 articles, all of which were removed from the Scopus database.

Magazine International Journal of Intelligent Systems and Applications in Engineering was accepted into Scopus in 2021. It was published 4 times a year. After acceptance in 2022, 3 additional special issues were immediately released, but this is not as critical as what happened next. In 2023, the journal published 15 issues, of which 11 were special issues, publishing a total of 1027 articles. And in 2024, in just 7 months, the journal published 25 issues and over 1500 articles. The screenshot shows the dynamics from the Scopus database.

Many of you are probably wondering how the journal continued to be indexed in Scopus, if in 2023 it published 1027 articles. And at the moment there are more than 1500 articles, of which almost 90% are indexed in Scopus. The whole secret is in the fields in which the journal is indexed. Computer science and engineering are the technical fields that Scopus loves the most. Usually, normal journals from these fields publish 1-2 thousand articles per year, and this is the norm for the Scopus database. Thus, they have adjusted their RADAR system so that it is less sensitive to the large number of published articles from these fields. But this will not work forever. This journal will definitely come under the scrutiny of the journal oversight committee and will be excluded from the database. Articles for 2023 and 2024 with 100% will likely be excluded from the Scopus database.

Conclusions:

This time we have again shown you 2 publications that, according to our predictions, will soon be excluded from the Scopus database. As can be seen from our past articles and exclusions, our predictions are coming true. Some of the publications we wrote about are still being indexed, but it is only a matter of time. As soon as they are excluded, we will immediately inform you about it.

We understand that the offer of quick publication is always attractive to our colleagues, but, dear scientists, we urge you to be careful when choosing a publication publication or an intermediary company that offers you quick publication in an indexed edition. As can be seen from our analysis, the Academy of Articles carefully approaches the choice of publications with which it cooperates so as not to endanger its clients. We strive to popularize this issue so that more and more Ukrainian scientists are more attentive to the places of publication of their articles and the choice of an intermediary company. Do not succumb to quick publication deadlines for little money, as this will always result in problems. Follow our column to stay up to date with all the news and not expose yourself to danger.

Soon we will present you with a new list of publications that will soon lose indexing in Scopus.
