The latest database update recorded 25 journals removed from Scopus in April–May 2026. Scopus carried out a significant clean-up in April and May 2026.
Twenty-five journals — over two months. From different countries, different fields, different publishers. From Elsevier to little-known regional publications, from technical engineering journals to mycological bulletins.
This is not an anomaly or a "technical glitch." It is a signal that Scopus sends to the scientific community on a regular basis: the database offers no guarantees. The status of "indexed in Scopus" is not a lifetime licence — it is conditional approval that can be revoked without personal notification to the author.
If your article is currently in one of these journals at any stage — from submission to accepted for publication — read carefully.
Journals from Our "Candidates for Removal" List That Have Officially Been Excluded
The April–May update confirmed the risks for four journals that Articles Academy had previously flagged in the "Candidates for Removal from Scopus" section — one of them as far back as two years ago.
Environment and Social Psychology — analysed in the first issue of "Candidates" as a journal with critical risks. The warning was issued two years ago — it has now been finalised.
ShodhKosh: Journal of Visual and Performing Arts — reviewed in Issue No. 14 as a publication showing signs of unstable editorial practice.
Scientific Culture — analysed in Issue No. 13 as a journal with a high probability of de-indexation.
MSW Management — reviewed in Issue No. 13 as a publication with a change in editorial policy that no longer meets Scopus standards.
In previous updates, we have already recorded that 41 out of 48 journals we flagged in the "Candidates" section have been officially removed from Scopus.
April–May only confirmed the trend: high-risk journals are eventually removed.

Journal Change Policy — Journals That Changed Their Editorial Policy
These publications have not ceased to exist entirely, but have changed their policy to the extent that Scopus can no longer confirm compliance with its indexation standards. For authors, the practical risk is identical: a publication in such a journal may not be counted — just as with journals on the official list of those excluded from Scopus.

Conclusions
Twenty-five journals over two months. The complete list of journals removed from Scopus in April–May 2026 covers thirteen publications that have ceased to exist and twelve that have changed their editorial policy to the extent that Scopus can no longer confirm compliance with its standards.
Among those removed are publications from Elsevier, SAGE, Taylor & Francis, and World Scientific. These are not only "dubious, little-known journals." Reputable publishers also receive no preferential treatment based on their reputation.
What this means in practical terms for every author:
- an article submitted or accepted before the date of removal risks not being counted during attestation;
- a publication in a removed journal may serve as grounds for rejection at a dissertation defence;
- grants and academic titles linked to Scopus publications are also at risk.
Our "Candidates for Removal" monitoring confirms this with figures: 41 out of 48 journals we identified as high-risk have already been officially removed — including four from this update, one of which we flagged as far back as two years ago.
The database evolves. Journals disappear. The choice of journal is a decision that determines the outcome.
Publishing in Scopus: We Take on the Risk
Twenty-five journals removed in two months — and each of them was once "in Scopus."
We do not simply publish articles. We select journals in a way that ensures the publication will be counted — at attestation, dissertation defence, and grant applications.
✅ Full end-to-end process: from writing to indexation
✅ Official contract and guaranteed result
✅ Only verified journals — zero risk of removal
Why clients trust us:
- 1,012+ clients per month;
- 1,175+ articles successfully published in Scopus;
- 73% of clients return for repeat orders;
- 300+ dissertation defences supported by our publications.
Publishing in a reputable Scopus journal is not something that happens "quickly, within a month." If you need results in 2026, you need to start now.
