Excluded journals from Scopus for December 2025

Article
Category: Excluded journals from Scopus
Date: 08.01.2026

Official List, Current Status, and Risks for Authors

The December 2025 Scopus update turned out to be one of the most talked-about in the past year: 16 journals were marked as “Discontinued,” and one more was removed unofficially.

Journals from Our "Candidates for Removal" List That Have Officially Been Excluded

The December update confirmed the risks for two journals, which Articles Academy I had previously warned in the column "Candidates for exclusion from Scopus":

International Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences
– took apart in Issue No. 11 (unstable practices, risks related to the publication's editorial policy).

Journal of Cultural Analysis and Social Change
– analyzed in Issue No. 12 as a journal that is highly likely to be deindexed.

In previous updates, we have already addressed:
37 of 41 issues...which we had warned about in the “Contenders” section, have been officially removed from Scopus.

December only confirmed the trend: High-risk journals get weeded out sooner or later.

Official list of excluded journals (December 2025)

Below is a list of magazines that were marked as “Discontinued” in the December update. This means that New articles in these journals are no longer indexed in Scopus.

⚠️ Unofficial list (a journal that has effectively lost its indexing)

We are separately noting the journal for which an actual loss of indexing has been recorded. The publication has been removed from the active Scopus source database:

E-ISSN: 2589-1316
Publisher: Lectito
Status: De facto loss of indexing (the journal is not listed in Scopus as an active source).
There had been earlier warnings about this magazine in "Candidates for Removal from Scopus," Issue No. 12.

For the author, it makes no difference whether it's an official discontinuation or a "quiet" delisting:
If the journal is not indexed, the article does not work for thesis defense, certification, and grants.

Analytical conclusions

The December Scopus update highlights several important trends:

1. Scopus strengthens control
Publishers with opaque policies, expedited peer review, or suspicious citations are under constant scrutiny.

2. Some issues of the magazine are published without official announcements
Authors often find out about deindexing only after the fact—when the article no longer appears in the database.

3. Risk prediction becomes critical
Our data confirms that analyzing metrics, peer review practices, and journal behavior makes it possible to predict exclusions long before the database is officially updated.

4. Loss of indexing = loss of results
Publication in a risk journal can cost:

– unregistered article;
– problems with certification or defense;
– loss of time;
– repeated costs for a new publication.

What should authors do?

✔️ Always check the journal's indexing status before submission
Base your decision not on the journal's website, but solely on current Scopus data.

✔️ Analyze the history and performance of the publication
Sudden spikes in the number of publications, a change in publisher, or a suspiciously quick review are red flags.

✔️ Work only with reputable journals and under expert guidance
No responsible author can do without system analytics today.

Conclusion

The December Scopus update clearly showed:
In today's academic world, there are no longer any "safe havens."
Even those magazines that have been considered stable and “safe” for years are now subject to the ban.

Choosing a journal yourself is increasingly becoming a risk that can cost:

  • lost indexation;
  • a publication not counted toward certification or a defense;
  • problems with grant applications;
  • a year's worth of work lost and the additional costs of a new publication.

Ago Systematic analysis of journals and publishers is not just advice, but the only real guarantee of academic integrity.
