Another twelve in June. Scopus removed 37 publications over the course of two months.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Every database update is not just an event you can glance at and forget. It\u2019s a warning that applies to every author currently choosing a journal to submit to. Because that\u2019s exactly what the risk will look like in 2026: not some abstract \u201cpredatory journal,\u201d but a publication that was in the database just yesterday\u2014and is no longer there today.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The June update covered eight countries and at least six scientific fields: ecology, pharmacy, engineering, orthopedics, healthcare, and environmental research. Eight journals were permanently removed from the index (Discontinuation). Among the June removals is a journal that we examined in detail in Issue No. 9:<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"><strong>Retos (Spain)<\/strong> \u2014 an analysis in Issue No. 9, \u201cCandidates for Removal from Scopus.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/a-articles.com\/en\/prof-title-ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">View the analysis \u2192\u00a0<\/a><\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">A Spanish journal on physical education and sports science. At the time of our analysis, we identified the following characteristics of a high-risk publication:<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">\u2014 a sharp increase in the number of posts over a short period of time;<br \/>\u2014 reducing the time required for peer review;<br \/>\u2014 active promotion through academic intermediaries.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">The June Scopus update confirmed the forecast.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5f0fb79 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5f0fb79\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-84260e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"84260e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>\ud83d\udcca  42 out of 48 \u2014 and that's no coincidence<\/strong><\/p><p>Between 2024 and 2026, 42 of the 48 journals we had flagged in the \u201cCandidates for Removal from Scopus\u201d section were officially removed from the database. It is yet another confirmation that the database is alive, evolving, and does not send out warnings.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Eight journals have been permanently discontinued in Scopus (Discontinuation). Four more have changed their editorial policies to such an extent that the database could no longer confirm their compliance with standards (Journal change policy). In total, there are twelve journals from eight countries, and their authors were not notified.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">What does this mean in practice:<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">\u2014 An article submitted to a journal before expulsion may not be counted toward the evaluation;<br \/>\u2014 publication in a discontinued journal \u2014 grounds for rejection during the dissertation defense;<br \/>\u2014 Grants and academic titles tied to Scopus publications are also at risk.<\/p><p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\">Our monitoring for 2024\u20132026 confirms that 42 of the 48 journals we identified as high-risk were officially delisted. In today\u2019s academic environment, the authors who survive are those who make decisions based on data, not on hopes. Checking a journal before submission is not an unnecessary precaution.
