All at once. From different countries, covering different topics, and with varying levels of \u201ccredibility.\u201d<br data-start=\"294\" data-end=\"297\" \/>Among them are publications from Greece, Jordan, Slovenia, Nigeria, Iraq, Italy, the United States, and other countries.<\/p><p>Journals on philosophy, medicine, cybersecurity, mycology, computer science, signals and images, surgery, and antennas. Some are highly specialized, while others cover a broad range of topics. Some are well-known, while others are less so.<\/p><p>This is not an anomaly. It is a message that Scopus sends time and time again: no journal is automatically \u201csafe\u201d simply because it was in the database yesterday.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-40f96a5 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"40f96a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89f588c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"89f588c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb84101 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"eb84101\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Magazines We Didn't See Coming \u2014 and Why It Matters<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-90fef85 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"90fef85\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b03bb02 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b03bb02\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the \u201cJournals at Risk of Being Removed from Scopus\u201d section, we systematically analyze publications that show signs of risk. We did not review any of the 16 journals included in the March update in advance.<br data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"934\" \/>This proves one simple thing: monitoring cannot cover all magazines at the same time. Some publications disappear unexpectedly\u2014without public warnings, without high-profile scandals. One day, the database is updated\u2014and the publication is gone.<\/p><p><strong>But when we give a warning\u2014we're precise.<\/strong> Between 2024 and 2025, 37 of the 44 journals we wrote about in the \u201cCandidates for Delisting\u201d section were officially removed. It reflects how Scopus continues to purge its database of publications that no longer meet its standards or have simply ceased operations.<\/p><p>Twelve journals have been assigned the status \u201cDiscontinuation\u201d\u2014they no longer exist as active publications. Four more\u2014classified as \u201cJournal Change Policy\u201d\u2014have changed their editorial policies to such an extent that Scopus cannot confirm their compliance with its criteria.<\/p><p>Among those excluded are publications from major players such as Springer Nature and Wiley. It is especially important to realize that even a prestigious publisher is no guarantee of permanent indexing.<\/p><p data-start=\"5229\" data-end=\"5553\"><strong>What this means in practical terms for every author:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li data-start=\"5229\" data-end=\"5553\">An article that has been submitted to or accepted for publication in a journal that is at risk of being delisted may not be counted toward certification;<\/li><li data-start=\"5229\" data-end=\"5553\">Publication in a discontinued journal may serve as grounds for rejection during the dissertation defense;<\/li><li data-start=\"5229\" data-end=\"5553\">Grants and titles linked to Scopus publications are also at risk.<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"5555\" data-end=\"5858\">The March update is yet another confirmation of a simple but uncomfortable truth: checking a journal before submission is neither paranoia nor excessive caution. It is basic professional practice for a modern researcher.
