That\u2019s exactly why this field has become ripe for manipulation\u2014and that\u2019s exactly why we conducted this investigation.\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The stakes are extremely high. A single article in Scopus can cost anywhere from $300 to $1500 and take months of work. For a Ukrainian researcher preparing for a thesis defense or undergoing a tenure review, this isn\u2019t just a publication\u2014it\u2019s a requirement without which their career comes to a standstill.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"none\">It is precisely this pressure that unscrupulous publications exploit. The journal is indexed in Scopus, the website looks reputable, the editorial office responds to emails\u2014and it seems like everything is under control. It sounds flattering\u2014but in reality, they simply pulled your email address from one of your articles.<\/span><\/li><li><b> <\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">A mass email campaign promising quick publication in exchange for money. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">They emphasize the deadlines: \u201c2\u20134 weeks until publication,\u201d \u201cthere are still spots available in the current issue.\u201d It is precisely this pressure to meet the deadline that is the key element of manipulation.<\/span><\/li><li><b> <\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Two types of magazines\u2014different risks. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Some accept everything within their scope\u2014the risk of deindexing is lower. Others accept any articles to maximize their earnings\u2014the risk of deindexing is close to 100%.<\/span><\/li><li><b> <\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">The author submits an article\u2014and everything happens very quickly. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">They accept submissions in a matter of days, publish them, and charge fees ranging from $300 to $1500. In some cases, the article even appears in Scopus.<\/span><\/li><li><b> <\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Scopus is conducting an audit\u2014and removing articles. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">After a journal or specific publications have been reviewed, they are removed from the database. The researcher is left with nothing: no publications and no money.<\/span><\/li><li><b> <\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">The editorial staff ignores requests and does not refund money. <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">The article must be rewritten and republished\u2014in a different journal, with new funding, and at the expense of precious time leading up to the
