The Scopus scientometric database is an example of solidity and authority in the scientific world. Despite the fact that this database was created in the relatively recent 2004, it has managed to become the largest in the world in terms of the amount of content presented. When a publication is included in Scopus, this indicates its credibility. It is prestigious to publish scientific developments in such a journal.
It is really difficult to get into this database, given the high selection standards. But at the same time, it is easy to fall out of it if, at some stage of its existence, the publication begins to deviate from these standards - for example, it demonstrates atypical behavior, which manifests itself in unusually high publication activity, high rates of plagiarism and self-citation in articles. Rapid peer review and negative reviews of publications can also cause this. In such cases, the publication receives a warning, and if there are no positive changes in its activities, it may eventually cease to be indexed.индексироваться.
In order for a publication to be included in Scopus, it must meet a number of criteria. Among them:
📌 ISSN number;
📌 proper registration;
📌 peer-reviewed content included in the content part;
📌 the relevance of the material not only for the country where the publication is based, but also for an international audience;
📌 easy-to-understand content;
📌 annotation in English;
📌 statement on ethical issues in publishing aspects.
Only under such conditions, the publication can count on an approval decision regarding indexing from Scopus.
To see which publications are included in the Scopus database, you need to go to the website of the Elsevier publishing house that founded it. You can download the Excel file there. It will display all titles of publications.
If we are talking about Ukrainian journals in the Scopus database and/or other Web of Science scientometric database, which is the second largest in the world in terms of published content, then as of September 23 this year, there were 145 such publications.
A variety of citation metrics are auxiliary tools that allow you to evaluate the performance of a scientific journal indexed in the Scopus database. One such metric is SNIP. This tool has been around since 2010 and was proposed by Henk Moed, a professor at Leiden University.
After 2 years, this indicator was somewhat transformed, as a result of which it continued to function, but the calculation methodology itself has changed.
The SNIP metric is based on measuring the difference in citation probability and the difference in subject areas. The following features are typical for calculating SNIP indicators:
📌 independence from base coverage;
📌 3-year citation window;
📌 Accounting for exclusively peer-reviewed works;
📌 equal weight of all quotes.
The developers of the Scopus database believe that more data for evaluating a publication makes such an evaluation more objective. As for SNIP, it can be used to compare materials from different areas well, to see the impact of links on citation rates.
If we talk about Ukrainian journals in Scopus, then among these publications it is worth noting:
✅ Progress in Physics of Metals;
✅ Problems and Perspectives in Management;
✅ East European Journal of Psycholinguistics;
✅ Psycholinguistics;
✅ Matematychni Studii.
Let's consider each of them in more detail. By the way, these publications are recognized not only in Ukraine, but also at the international level. They are in demand among scientists from different countries.
So, Progress in Physics of Metals was founded in 2000. In 2018, it was re-registered. At this time, the publication received its current name, because before that it was called "Advances in the Physics of Metals." The subject of the publication is focused on experimental and technical research in the field of physics of metals, as well as other substances with metallic and semi-metallic properties. The journal was in the Q1 quartile. Established this edition of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Problems and Perspectives in Management is published in Sumy and has a quarterly frequency. It covers a variety of topics in the field of management - from management processes at the state level to the management of companies. Like the previous edition, this journal has a Q1 quartile.
The East European Journal of Psycholinguistics has the Q3 quartile and is published in Lutsk. East European Journal of Psycholinguistics is published in June and December. The guest editor is Joshua Hartshorne of Boston. The next special issue of the publication will be devoted to such topics as "Language and War".
Psycholinguistics has a Q2 quartile. It comes out in Pereyaslav. It is published by the University of Grigory Skovoroda. The publication specializes in both theoretical and applied aspects of psycholinguistics. The journal includes a wide range of topics within the chosen direction and is in demand among scientists from different countries.

Summing up…
So, if we talk about Ukrainian publications that are indexed in the Scopus database, then there are quite a lot of them. Domestic science is adequately represented at the international level and is open for cooperation. There are publications that are in demand among scientists from different countries.
Given that the mentioned scientometric base puts forward strict criteria for each indexed publication, it is prestigious to publish in these journals. Such publications open up great prospects for scientists. Scientists can confidently apply for prestigious grants, have a better chance of successfully defending their dissertations, and be respected members of the international scientific community.
